Angioplasty – Guiding Catheters Course

Learn about the different types, construction, and safe uses of guiding catheters

What you'll learn in this course

This course will explore Guide Catheters used in Coronary Angioplasty in detail. As a refresher, guiding catheters are long, reinforced plastic tubes that pass from the arterial access site (radial or femoral), up the arterial system to the coronary artery origins. They allow contrast dye to be injected into the arteries and the passing of equipment such as wires, balloons, and stents, plus other medications.

This course will give you an overview of the role and construction of the guiding catheters, support, which sizes to use, engagement, and related trauma. We will also explain each family, and when they should be used depending upon the patient’s anatomy.
