Angioplasty – Valves & Manifolds Course

Learn all about the haemostatic valve and manifold, and how essential they are in procedures

What you'll learn in this course

This course will explore the Haemostatic Valve and Manifold in much more detail. As a refresher, a haemostatic valve is a small device in the shape of a “Y” that is used to control entry in and out of the attached guide catheter, whilst still allowing the blood pressure to be monitored (when closed), perform contrast injections, and deliver medication when required.

A manifold is a special piece of equipment comprising of 2-3 taps to control the flow of contrast dye and saline throughout the procedure. It is set-up at the beginning of every case, and connects to the guiding catheter, allowing the operator to safely inject either contrast or saline by turning relevant taps on or off, eliminating risk of air embolus.
